Conserving Marine Ecosystems

Safeguarding Life Below Water

Informed Minds. Protected Seas.

Plastic is not the only threat to our ocean.

Sentinels of Blue is Pontus Water’s dedicated impact advocacy program, focused on safeguarding marine ecosystems and shedding light on harmful and unethical practices that threaten marine life.

Our brand’s deep connection to the sea is uniquely reflected in Pontus, the original god of the sea, who symbolizes our bona fide commitment to protecting and honoring the ocean.

How are we helping?

Pontus Water is committed to raising awareness for marine ecosystems through impactful and entertaining social media campaigns and our growing Sentinels of Blue initiative. We’re building strategic partnerships with organizations and foundations that have the resources to drive real change. By the end of 2026, a portion of our proceeds will be donated to select marine-focused groups, with all partnerships transparently promoted on our channels. Our Florida-based team will also support conservation efforts through local volunteer campaigns and community engagement, which will also be documented and available.

Whats Happening?

Some of the most damaging threats to marine ecosystems today come from human-driven practices.

Shark Finning:

Sharks are caught, their fins are sliced off, and the bodies discarded. Over 73 million sharks are killed each year for the global fin trade. On average, sharks are responsible for approximately 5 to 10 human fatalities worldwide each year. Estimates indicate that humans kill approximately 100 million sharks each year, primarily due to overfishing, bycatch, and the demand for shark fins.

Bottom Trawling:

Industrial nets drag along the seafloor, devastating fragile habitats. This causes large-scale seafloor destruction, including deep-sea coral reefs.

Plastic Pollution:

Plastic waste entangles or is ingested by over 700 marine species. Microplastics have now been found in seafood, water, and even human blood.

Endangered Species

The ocean is home to countless remarkable species, many of which are now on the brink of extinction due to human impact. Among them are the Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Giant Manta Ray, and Scalloped Hammerhead Shark.

These species face increasing threats from illegal wildlife trade, overfishing, and habitat destruction. Hawksbill Sea Turtles are critically endangered, targeted for their ornate shells and increasingly affected by coral reef degradation. Giant Manta Rays are vulnerable due to targeted fishing and slow reproduction. Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks are heavily exploited for their fins and suffer from bycatch and declining populations worldwide.

While these are only a few, protecting these species is essential to preserving the balance of marine ecosystems.
